Tulips in Keukenhof Flower GardensThe cultivation and trade in flower bulbs started over 400 years ago around the city of Haarlem. Most tulips were brought from the mountains between Turkey and China. The word tulip originates from the Persian word "tulipan." The name stuck as the bulbs were similar in shape to the turbans worn by Persians at the time.
